LOL. I'm not sure why so many people fall into the 26 vs 29 debate trap.

At least I got us off the axle merry-go-round.

I can't say for certain that it wouldn't have happened anyway, but I've bent my steel fork while secured with a quick release. The legs are spread a good quarter inch wider than spec. It makes wheel changes and rack mounting a pain. I blame the QR, along with the fork spec.

And yet again an informative thread gets converted to 29 vs 26 because some 29er owner has to say mine is bigger than yours.
As I never had problem with the 29ers, some of their owners are plain irritating. OK OK guys you won 29ers are faster and are the future. How many times do we have to here that? Yes Michigan stores stock mostly 29ers. That's why not so long ago I saw a 5ft tall lady struggling at Pontiac on a brand new 29er. She could barely reach the ground with her feet. I don't know what an idiot sold her that bike? Probably he was not stocking 26.

As for being phased out.
Steel frames are still here.
Single Speeds are still here.
Rigid bikes are still here.
Hardtails are still here.
And carbon is still quite away from taking over the entire market.

I was actually being sarcastic but it seems only one person got my troll attempt to change the subject (which worked) and focus it on another wildly debated topic.

I like my 20mm Maxle. I have no scientific data to back up it's stiffness.

Denial is the first sign.

First Step
Admitting you are powerless over... the marketing hype and BS that is the fad of the 29r

Single crown forks are weak in torsion. When the axle is twisted (around the steering axis) the sliders can stop sliding and you can crash. A thru axle will add some torsional stiffness. But if the fork ends flex a thru axle will not add much torsional stiffness. In other words, a thru axle is not going to stiffen up a cheap fork very much. It like " putting lipstick on a pig".
A 29er will have a longer lever arm and should require a stiffer fork then a 26". So, when you upgrade to a 29er, upgrade with a better fork.
It will only costs 4 times as much!

Well, I think your question was answered on the first page, but yes, most of the time, you will need a new hub. Check with the hub manufacturer to see if a conversion kit is available.

Thanks mtbfree, I think I will just stick with QR as I am not railing the berms and jumping off cliffs. My next bike, sure, I will get all the bells and whistles.

is anyone running the DT Swiss RWS Aluminum Thru-Bolt 10mm Skewer? I was having slippage problems with my rear wheel on my SS even with a tentioner and there is a stans kit that converts everything for ~$50 and provides 50% more clamp.
