What Kind Of Tires Are You Running?

Postby jfactor! » July 16th, 2012, 12:01 pm

After running my DMR's at the TC Bootleg this weekend I've decided I need some more aggressive tires. The street tires were fine this spring when the trails were really packed, but Saturday was downright scary.

What are your recommendations? These will only be used up north.

Best deal on DH tires right now are kenda Telonix 2.4, downhill casing. Available from jensonusa for 19.99 a tire. Classic design, and lots of clearing space to grip well on loose (northern michigan) trails.

The 2.5 DHF in super tacky is the benchmark all conditions DH tire, but retail is about 70 on those right now.

On my AM/XC i have Continental Rubber Queen/Trail King(same thing, renamed for american market due to rubber queen being silly slang word) 2.4 upfront/2.2 rear in UST Black Chili compound. Will never switch to anything else, they are high volume(actual 2.5/2.35 or more) grippy fast rolling tires. On a DH I got Kenda Excavator 2.5 - very high rolling resistance, very aggressive, probably overkill for Michigan terrain.
"Flow" is characteristic of the rider, not of the trail.

I'm running Kenda Nevegals, 2.5 up front, 2.35 in the rear, DH casing on both. They're a good, very predictable all conditions tire, and the price was right since I got them for $30 each brand new.

I'm using Specialized S-Works Captain's in a 2.0 front and rear. Been pretty happy with them everywhere I've ridden them all over the state.

Usually a Holy Roller 2.4 in the rear with a WTB Prowler XT 2.35 up front. Sometimes 2 Prowlers.

Once in a while (like this last weekend in TC) I'll throw a Prowler in the rear with a Minion DHF or Prowler MX on the front. I just ripped my last Minion (*beep* it A2!) so I'm not sure what I'll do on the next lift day.

He's talking about DH specific tires/trails, not your all around XC tires.
