Done.

There was a whole section on what the DNR does in terms of trail acquisition and planning that I kinda felt unqualified to answer, and I tend to pay attention. Seemed a bit too "inside baseball" for the average trail user. Dunno. :P

Shared on FB with the chapter.

I thought I had subscribed to most of the DNR mail feeds, but didn't see this come across the wire. How is this being circulated?

Yeah. I just gave my opinion as it pertains to mountain bike trails and what we do, then I placed a comment in the "other" field.

I particularly liked how the survey briefly addressed the importance of having trails for a single purpose.

Reading between the lines on the "single purpose" and "solitude" type questions- I don't think single purpose mountain bike trails are what they're eluding too... I think they want to justify excluding us actually.

My memory is shockingly bad. Was there mention of horses?

Based on the slant, looks like they want more trails opened to ORV's. They think they will fund that mission with a non-motorized vehicle ORV license.

Can't wait to share the Poto with horses, turkeys, deer, hunters, snowmobiles, XC skiers, snowshoers, motorcycles, sleds pulled by dogs, quad runners, hikers, off leash dogs and runners when there is one inch of snow on the ground. I said I have no issues with sharing the trail :-)

Hard to know exactly what this data will be used for. Mountain biking advocacy means we have to sort of walk the "human powered" tight rope where we accept shared access with other human powered users yet support restricting access for motorized users.

Don't be so quick to say there's an intentional slant, too. It may be someone honestly trying to make an even assessment.

From my experience the DNR is quite welcoming to mountain biking in appropriate areas where the trail surface supports it, particularly due to the involvement of the MMBA. Us bike folks tend to do a lot of volunteer work that not all other user groups do.

I got the feeling that this wasn't really an 'official' survey from the DNR. It was uncharacteristically poorly designed.
