It definately sounds like the interest and motivation is there, we just need to get organized and get this rolling. Although I may kick myself later, I'll offer to spearhead this. One caveat, I'm very new to the advocacy and trailbuilding side of things, so I'll have a lot to learn as we go.
What type of setup do others have in mind? Open up (officially) the current trails to bikes, thereby making them shared? Add a separate mountain bike trail? My thoughts are for a separate bike trail. Although I've only been to the Hogbacks once (hiking), I did see a number of equestrians, and evidence that the trails are used frequently by equestrians. If the equestrian presence is really strong there, I think a separate trail would be an easier sell (reduced conflicts, equestrians won't feel as if we're taking "their" trail).
I fully agree that there is some great terrain there :D .

Brad- if you want to shoot me a PM with your email - I can hook all you guys up on the side to get this rolling. We do need to loop in JAJ. I know he's out on the Board - but email will probably be faster all around.

I think that new trails would need to be developed out there separate from the existing equestrian / hiking trails. The equestrian use out there is moderately popular, so best to avoid any trail conflict in my opinion.

I am game to help out, so if someone starts leading a charge, just let me know. I would think the first step is approaching the Genesee County Parks and I would be happy to initiate this step as I have contacts there from previous events I have organized.

Perhaps all those interested could get together for a ride / meeting sometime in the near future.

I'm with you in that we would probably need separate equestrian/bike trails, though this presents its own difficulties.
I'm strong on knowledge of the Hogbacks (grew up in Elba) and fairly well-versed on trailbuilding, but Luke's connections with park people would be key. I'm willing to meet for this as well. I should mention that I'm the Holly/Flint Chapter President, although I think having personal knowledge of the players means more than this position at this point. I definitely would like Jones involved in this one.

This thread died. Is it possible to put some planning into building a trail at Hogbacks? I'd be willing to help

Hey, count me in to help build trails (nothing with planning, just labor). I knew I was going to like biking better than Jeeps.

Regarding the Mounds, I don't see a bike trail going around the property. They've had issue this year, discovering that a small section of the park is built on DNR land, for a short time it was questionable what might happen to the park.
