Northville Psych Input Meeting

Postby bender13 » March 25th, 2010, 10:49 am

I had heard it mentioned somewhere that the MMBA may be interested in working with Northville Township at the former State Hospital Property. I just wanted to let anyone interested know that there is an Input Meeting tonight at the Northville Township Hall at 7:00 PM. I am not sure if someone from the MMBA leadership wants to attend. I am sure if any area mountain bikers showed up to give input it would not hurt. I am unable to attend due to class, but thought I would throw it out there.

The Northville Township Hall is at 6 mile and Sheldon.

Thanks,

Jeff

It was my understanding that this property was slated for development by Sandia{sp?}, the same architects that did the ugly big box development of the GM property at Twelve Mile and Mound in Warren.
I'm only mentioning this because, despite promises to the contrary, their Warren project did not provide 'open space for recreation'. Perhaps all of that has changed since the credit default swap real estate meltdown of 2008-2009?

Good luck to you.

My property taxes (and all Northville Township residents) are now paying to keep a large chunk of that land open to recreation. This meeting is to discuss that portion of the property.

I read an article in the Plymouth newspaper, that master "plans" for the property are being developed/explored by U o M Architecture grad students studying urban design/land use, and that they, and the township are looking for new eyes and fresh input on what potential USERS might want.....I think it would be a good thing if we had some presence there.

I guess if you any of you interested had shown up at the last Metrosouth meeting you'd know more...

Unfortunately I do not have tome to type out all that is happening out there...But I was discussed at the chapter meeting. If you really want to know, then look for more details when I get time,. or show up at the meetings and learn first hand

Ahh...One sleep dog over the legal limit again huh... :D

Just some follow up notes:
The MMBA is working with the city in it's future planning of the old hospital grounds. The meeting last week was the U of M grad students urban planning project...which is based on the Hospital grounds. I did not make the meeting, but we havd had representation in the meetings by a few Northville residents since the beginning.

This said our chapter (Metrosouth) are making community efforts to help the city and keep our input for the master planning that is going on. This weekend over 10 MMBA members helped cut up downed trees to help preserve a forest on the hospital property. We will keep you all informed as things develop and as we need voices, support, or help

Thanks

From what I heard, Northville Twp. actually approached the MMBA for input/help on getting some trails in that property - and the chainsaw party, was part of the mutual backscratch-fest that is continuing to bear fruit.

Keep attention on this, it could get exciting!

That's good news. I hated the idea that "Northville" (in quotes 'cause I, and the other residents) bought the property back from a disgruntled developer. There are just so many reasons that's not acceptable but if we (N.ville residents and others) can get use out of it, that would mean I'm at least paying for something worthwhile, particularly if there are mountain bike trails.

We may want to keep this quiet though. I hear the equestrians are taking over all our trails!

12 Mile and Mound project has miles of asphalt pathways and many acres of open space along with many acres of beautiful mitigated wetlands. Get your facts correct before you put them in print..........................

Define "many" acres. Is it equivalent to the 300+ acres of open space originally promised at the town hall meetings? Oh, wait. I guess you also have to factor in the courtyards between buildings as "open space", too. Gee, taken in that context, I guess there's tons of "open space" running down the center of Mound Road. I may not have every "fact" down pat, but your developer friends did NOT create paradise at 12 and Mound.

Numerous, would be one definition.
City Council highly scrutinized this area when under review and development. Thus I can say everything that was expected is there or more in regards to land use.
If the darn econony did not take a dump and it was developed 100%, I would bet it would be one of the gems of the area, or GM may have held onto it and built something which may or may not be better.
From what I saw, for example, pretty much everybody was against the Meijer, but when it opened, busses were escorting people around.
Yes a fenced in area that was partially used for a "car storage" lot and the rest 100% natural with deer and other wildlife is very nice and rare, but GM needed to get out, The City could not turn it into a Golf course and some Developer had big enough (cahunas) *beep* to try and make something happen. Good for them and sahme on you for being so critical.
