I see the downed tree was not quite removed around the 5.25 mile mark. Was able to bunny hop it all 4 times yesterday but it took some calculating the first two times to keep my speed, clear the hurdle and then flow with the right hand berm. I like the change of keeping it there.

Lots of sand spots out there....what we at the Motor Club refer to as 'Powdered Donut' For it only being 3-4 weeks since I was out there last the trail has really changed because it has been so dry. Still loads of fun and fast but did have a couple surprises in my normal lines that had me shifting my weight to make sure I wouldn't break traction.

What got me though was the realization that the days are getting shorter. I started at 6:00pm and was done a few mins before 8:00pm but on the last two laps I had the sun flat out blinding me in some areas.

I'll second the "sandier" part - I hope it doesn't get (much) worse.

It seems Maybury is getting a lot more traffic than last year. (At least to me.) I felt like it was way more worn in/chopped on desecents, and overall. Was still fun on Sunday.

Tree is still down around the 5.5 mile mark. The sandy corners are making me question my tire pressure and remaining tread life of my tires. I had way too many close calls tonight with front tire washout. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Normal for Maybury this time of year. I rode my fatbike out there last Sunday on a new set of Husker Du tires and could make the bike slip and spin. If you're questioning how much tread you have left, I'm doubtful tire pressure will matter. Time for a new set.

Yes, it's that time of year to drop the tire pressure a bit and change up the lines. I run 29x2.25 Racing Ralphs on both ends and still find myself doing some controlled drifting with both tires. But not just at Maybury.

Not sure this qualifies as a trail condition, but wildlife was extremely jumpy last night. I had to slam on the brakes for a snake, a rabbit, a squirrel, three deer (1 event), and a bird. All of them jumped right out in front of my tire. Always lots of critters to see there but I've never had to brake for one. Then last night... ALL of them in one loop.

I lowered tire pressure (sandy) and set a personal record (still slow) in spite of the best efforts of these varmits. Love Maybury. - IM

Almost ran into 18 wild turkeys on Monday night. They decided to cross the trail in front of me. Very cool to see.

Wild Turkey were out at the top of the 'downhill' section yesterday. Saw 2 deer right before the first pavement crossing on Monday. That was weird because I never see them there. If I do see them it's normally between mile 4 and 5.5.

But the funny one was at the area where the tree was down around the 5.25 mile mark and now it's just a log to hop over. We call that Raccoon Alley because last year we hit that little chute and had to lock the brakes up because there was a raccoon in the middle of the trail who had no intention of moving because he was sick, malnurished (sp) and half asleep. No room to go around him at all. Took us 10 mins to get him off into the woods where he could be at peace.

Then there's 'Snapping Turtle Way' . . . oh the stories of meeting wildlife face to face on the trails. How come I don't come across the fluffy bunnies that just run away? I have to relocate the ones that can cause bodily harm.

(My best story is the black bear I met riding in Canada once . . . by myself)

That's irony for ya.....came across a rabbit at Lakeshore yesterday. But it was dead in the middle of the trail...pun intended. Stopped and removed the deseased rabbit off the trail with some sticks.

I only check in every so often until later in Autumn (Maybury has a certain magic then). I would attribute the state of the trail to perhaps an unusually dry season and abnormally high traffic.

I ride: the Grinder at least twice a week, Pontiac 2-3 times per week, Poto once each week (quite a drive for me, but worth it!) and at least one Proud Lake/Milford/Island Lake ride each week (I've been doing this routine since early April this year).

Retired??? LOL man I wish I could ride like that every month let alone every week.

I'm not retired, I just make time for what's important!!! I think my problem was actually not the trail at all. I wasn't totally there (lots of unexpected crap happened recently and I was preoccupied with that) and was taking it out on Maybury. I formally apologize to Maybury and the MTB Gods. I was there on my wife's ride (way too small - but my ride's in the shop for upgrades) and had a blast this week. Have to remember to file the crap in the special circular file cabinet at the trail head.

tree down ~4.2 miles in. it will require a chainsaw

there were a few avoidable puddles and a big hanger towards the end of the bomber downhill, but otherwise the trail was great.

I got there about 2 pm today, the first lap a tree was down about 1/3 mile in from the second paved road, hike a bike over the mess it made, the tree at the 5.5 is gone, someone must not of liked it, it wasn't me.
Then on the second lap there was another tree down, another hike a bike, by the swamp near the end, just before the trail splits into 3 choices. There were a few wet spots, but all in all NICE... the trail sucked up the water pretty good, sure beats the slick sandy stuff.
