That trail was SWEET!!! I road it for the first time yesterday front to back. I was ready for another loop, but the old guys wanted to go home and put on the aspercream and bengay.

thanks to everyone that helped to fix my "*beep* BIKE" 27lbs of almost usless aluminum and plastic.

oh yeah, some of the tree branches need to be trimmed.

:D Great ride at Highland this afternoon...
 The downed tree on B loop after C intersection is a headbanger/walker... (my head is still aching) still a few others down... some can be squeezed through depending on how good of a contortionist you are... :D Great job on the rock shielding and re-routes from storms late last year... :D D has not gotten a lot of traffic... be careful on the leaf litter...

Hmmmm. I had no issues at all at Highland on Saturday. I just squished myself low. I think a taller person would have to dismount. Other than that, a BIG THANKS to whoever fixed it. It was quite broken last fall.

Uh...yeah - I had to dismount (or "hug" the top tube) at least 3 times out there last week...

Trees down

Postby DCat » May 17th, 2004, 8:28 am

Rode highland Sunday-there are a few new blowdowns on B, after the split from A. First is a bit dangerous; about .25 mile past the split at the bottom of one of nice downhills-one of the few places you can get cranking over 20mph, and at about handlebar high, it could ruin someones day (Its a 6-8" diam forked tree-quick buzzwork to clear it)...Another bigger blowdown about .25 mile further down, then a third another .5 mile in. Didn't ride C, but D also had a blowdown, but I didn't note the milage on that-sorry.

Wes, looks like you or someone else has done quite a bit of work already this spring-post up if you are going to do a work day and I'll do my best to get there to help out.

I road A & B yesterday and all of the above were cleared.

There is a series of downed trees on B loop just past C that will require some chain saw love. There is also a downed (I think poplar) tree on the back side of A loop just after D.

If we hadn't planned this ride well in advance we would have cancelled it due to the conditions. The trails were VERY wet with river fords in some spots

It was a slow and muddy muddy ride, though we had a great time.

All in all it needs time to air out in there and we need a reprieve from the deluge.

UPDATE: At the last second we decided to go to Holly Holdridge (and didn't read the warning about the West Loop). Man, it was the bog of everlasting stench. The bridges at the end were even washed out and thus a 14" river fording was required.

I rode the A&B loop at Highland yesterday (Sunday, May 30th) and it was perfect. There were no fallen trees anywhere on those loops and the dirt was dry and tacky. The parking lot was completely packed to capacity!!! I think there was some kind of navigating event going on because there were alot of people walking up and down livingston rd. with maps to their faces but I didn't run across any of them out on the trails.

just rode all four loops tonight. trail conditions are excellent!! there was only 1 very small puddle on the C loop. there were a couple of semi-slick spots but all had clear lines through them and were no trouble. no downed trees. the mosquitos are voracious out there though. i stopped to adjust the rear derailleur and i think i lost at least a pint of blood.
