NMMBA: Hanson Hills

For posting trail-specific conditions and problems

Rode there for the first time Saturday 9/10. Some how I ended up right back at the beginner after taking the first split in the trail there was an arrow right and left I went right and ended up right back where I started. Didn't really care for all the sand either nice flowing trails, but all the your downhill speed is washed out in nasty deep sand. What is up with all the two track through there as well? I was actually 4 wheeling it through the two track where I was staying and ended up coming through the backside of Hanson Hills ski area.

Welcome to northern MIchigan with our natural resource - Sand

You took the short loop is all. By taking all lefts you ride the longest loop. That spot you speak of is on our list to clean up this year. With the several torrential downpours many parts of the trail are washed over and eroded pretty badly. In fact, this section is slated to be re-routed for next spring.

Thanks for your comments. :D

The two tracks are actually part of one of the largest cross country ski systems in the midwest.

Our group is thinking about riding Hanson Hills on the way to Iceman Friday. Been hearing alot of good things about this place and never have the time to make a trip up north. Can you tell me how long the trail is? We would like to do 10-15 miles if possible.

Hanson Hills is awsome. The trail is about 9 or so miles long with plenty of nice hills to climb and bomb down. there is some twisty cool stuff thrown in to keep you on your toes.

Have fun.

Rode Hanson Hills for the first time Friday as a little Iceman warm up. What a great trail! So scenic and great flow. The last downhill is a blast too. Can't wait to get up north to ride it again. :D

Any plans to add more trail?

Just to be sure. Please give the trail until Mid April to properly drain and to ensure any and all frozen ground is thawed.

Thank you.

Definitely good to go. All the downed trees are gone and the trail is in fine condition, except for some extra leaves which HH will rake off this week.

Spam-

There's about four tree's that still need to be removed as of 5:00 on wednesday. I'll try to get to them, but I think Jake and Justin are on them also.

Justin mentioned on Tuesday, at the mmba meeting, that he and Jake would take care of the rest of the fallen trees and start to rake the leaves off the trail.

Thank you for your input.

Yes. In a word, EPIC.

It is the best piece of singletrack at Hanson Hills. Plenty of climbs but some really sweet downhill runs.
