Ya... I'm bringing in some mixers to turn it into a sidewalk...just kidding!

The dirt was put there to allow bikes to roll over the biggest logs and log piles without smashing their chainrings. Some of the log piles have been reinforced by adding dirt, as well. For clarification, not all of the logs in the trail system required this treatment, just the ones causing heavy contact. Rich has been maintaining them per Gary's instructions.

Thats why I don't use a big chainring and use a middle chainring and a small bashguard. I like being able to get over anything.

Trail was sweet last night! Thanks to Gary and James for the tours. I had a blast despite the heat. The real men did 2 laps! (I only did 1.5, so that makes me 3/4 real man.)
We'll have to do it again soon. And head to Ashley's afterwards?

Yeah, that was a HOT time trail riding last night ! We took the first loop and a half at a moderate pace
and then I stepped on the gas for the second one with Travis and Jeff (that was a fast fun loop guys !).

We all agreed that we have never seen the trail so dry, hardpacked and fast as it has been this year.
The ice cold Bell's Oberons always tastes best after some 99 degree trail riding and the conversation about beer/bikes was really cool.
Thanks to Mike R., James, Jeff S. and Travis for coming out and sharing this extreme experience !

In most recent news - I was out there today cutting up all the deadfall trees that were threatening to take out the 32 foot elevated bridge on
Lucky Dawg during the next torrential rainfall (if we ever get one, but we probably will !). They moved like 10 feet towards it last year, so it was
time to eliminate the potential hazard. After I had cut the dead wood into pieces, Rick came by on his bike and helped me move the big heavy chunks.
Thanks for your excellent timing man ! I also removed the 2" x 10" log ramp due to the rotting condition and will replace it with a new log pile soon.
I love mountain biking because I haven't found anything that is more FUN !!
Of all the paths you choose in life....make sure some of them are DIRT !!

Commuting miles in 2012 = 1065
Total road/trail miles = 2800
Number of rides = 152
Trails ridden = 28 different in MI, 2 in Oregon

Hey opJames - thanks for the tour you gave Lynda and myself earlier in the week! The trail was in great shape, and your route suggestions were great - thanks again!

Rode Morty T this evening, seriously dry, hard, fast. When I finished my entire bike was a pale shade of gray, even the tires. Noticed the two bandit trails are now gone (overgrown), a "Private Property No Trespassing Sign" is up where that "Maple" trail used to be. Ironically the one private trail along the creek's edge across from there is still there well groomed, connecting to the two track.
Only saw one other biker out there, not one hiker.

That be me...I liked the "ginormous" tires on your bike.

Thanks! New "Husker Du" tires. I really like the way fatbikes handle the tight sections near the parkinglot, these new tires are about 400g or more lighter, roll better ( the tread is a bit more like a traditional MTB tire, unlike Endomorphs & Larry's). Helps with that section I saw you at, looks like some of that hill is a bit overgrown where it looks like most people are missing the far northeast corner of that loop.

Rode about 3/4 of the trail and that was all I could stand with heat,it was just like you guys said "dry, fast and dusty"!!!

You might have finished the trail if you used a Bear Gryls desert survival technique. He urinates on his t shirt, then wraps it around his head. Keeps your head from overheating, heard it works like a charm.

Good luck with that. Let me know how it works...

Here are a couple of short videos on proper hot weather survival. The second one is really interesting. Enjoy!

I have a much cleaner solution from down under to dealing with heat, Merino wool jerseys. They breathe far better than the typical high tech bike jerseys for me, and the anti-microbial properties allow you to wear them for days and they will not stink. I've even tested this in Australia myself.

The way we coped with the heat in nam was lots and lots of warm 3/2 beer, and various forms of morphine. Come to think of it...I wish I had some right now.
