Some of us DID!
You know what they say, Winners never cheat and cheaters never win.

Nice video Jan! Wish you would stick around longer and get some footage of us slower sport racers though. :)

I guess people who need a gel pack 60 seconds into the race ride outside the cones. :D

Edit: My bad, I forgot experts did two laps. It would have been much harder to eat a gel on the grass.

Thanks to all of the riders that stayed on the marked course. We put a lot of time in on marking this course. I am very disappointed that any of you would want to cheat and make yourself and your teammates look bad riding out of bounds. I now rember why the decent to the rain shelter had stakes and tape. :(

You got a good shot of me on that first little hill :D Thanks for the picture, it was my first race, and was a lot of fun. Everyone did a good job putting this race on.

To be honest, I too rode on the pavement for a short time in this section. Coming off the grass and making the left, it wasn't clear, at least to me at the time, if I should stay to the right or left of the cones. The course marshall kind of just yelled 'up the hill.' After looking up ahead of me and seeing the rider on the grass, I moved over.
I won't go as far as saying anyone was purposely 'cheating', I just think it could have been a little more clearly marked.

Really...

You mean all the large orange sprayed arrows on the ground every 20 feet, and 75 orange cones at the edge of the grass weren't enough.

Really...I guess next year we'll just have to put ribbon the entire 9.7 miles My Bad!

ha! I told you I wasn't going overboard on Cheez Whiz on Friday!!!! Next time I'll double the cheez whiz.

It puzzles me since you have to actually cross the lines of cones to be on the wrong side of it..... I don't see what was so confusing about it... Stony creek TT had cones alongside the road to force people to ride on the gravel instead of asphalt, and I thought that was clear enough. And those Tailwind races, there are no Cheez Whiz arrows on the ground (complements of me) or excessive tape like we had at Maybury.

hind sight i can think on one more piece of ribbon that might have made it ridiculously obvious. But I think the 6-8 people that helped us for 6 + hours Friday night (including cheese wizard Tak :D ) all agreed that it was really obvious. Sometimes we just have to use the consensus wins rule.

I did a preride with one of the guys that marked the course, I did know which side of the cones to ride. On my second lap, there was some one standing at that corner who yelled "ride on the pavement". I did stay on the correct side of the cones. All though it might have seemed obvious as to which side you should ride, some confusion could have been eliminated by stating at the start line "stay to the right of the cones". If for no other reason than to eliminate the excuse "well I did not know". This is also the same reason when you go to a national level event just about the entire course is marked with tape.

it's hard to believe that anyone who rode under 40 MINUTE LAPS stayed on the grass in that section!
