Singletrack riding around Higgins Lake?

Postby Mike_D » July 25th, 2012, 9:45 pm

Is there any singletrack worth riding within a 30 minute (or so) drive of Higgins Lake area? Have a vacation coming up in the area and would love to ride some singletrack in an area I have never ridden before. Was going to be staying at Young State Park but plans have changed and so has where I will be riding. Hanson Hills maybe or is there something else up that way?

Thanks - Mike

the are trails at Rifle River SP, nothing too crazy, kinda like Bald Mt
but at least it's in the woods and not too sandy, actually the leaves are still on the ground it gets ridden so little

There is a trail that leads out from the CCC museum at North Higgins Lake State Park. Higgins lake is also close to Hansen Hills. I know you asked about dirt, but a road ride around the Lake is also not bad with a few nice views of the lake.

Just head for Hanson Hills. It's less then half an hour away and you won't be disappointed.

I guess I should have looked at a map before posting up. Hanson Hills is ~20 minutes away. This is a no-brainer for me as I typically need to drive 25 or 30 minutes to ride singletrack from where I live.

It's a little bit further away, but Ogemaw Hills Pathway just north of West Branch can be a lot of fun. Around 12 miles of trails. Some hills, decent down hills.

Second this. Only rode it once, but it was great fun. You won't regret the trip.
