Anything at all, for kids near Elk Rapids?

Postby jano » August 5th, 2012, 7:56 am

I know about VASA, but I'm looking for something very close to Elk Rapids or slightly north. It can be easy, short stuff because its for my daughter and I. She is 11, but rides regularly with me. I just need some dirt to play on. I'm not keen on driving 20-30 when I know there has to be something close to our doorstep.

I'd love to get permission from one of the orchards, but I doubt that is going to happen ... :(

I'd just ride those orchard access roads around you. We ride them all the time. They're off limits during hunting season, and when crops are being harvested, but neither are in play right now. Otherwise, there's nothing up that way.

There are some new trails near Bellaire, but this isn't any closer than the VASA. There are short loops, and the climbing is easy. http://www.gtrlc.org/protected-land/gla ... ural-area/.

I'm not sure you could really classify Glacial Hills as having easy climbing, there is more climbing there than the majority of the trails down state.

It's still worth a go, but there will be some hike a bike sections for an 11 year old.
