Racks for Commuting

Postby the Putti » February 13th, 2012, 10:45 pm

Hey Party People,

I am pretty new to cycling, really only started seriously in July on 2011. I have a 2009 Specialized Allez Sport Compact Double and want to ride to work when the weather gets a little better. I have about a 12 mile one way commute, and was thinking that a rack to stash the laptop on would make for a more comfortable commute. I've been told that the type of dropout that the bike has affects the rack that you can put on the bike.

So, I am looking for someone with a kind heart and some knowledge on the MMBA boards to help me out. Any suggestions on what what rack would work for my bike?

Thanks in advance.

I use a Planet Bike Versa Rack on my commuter. It is nice because its lower legs are adjustable in height and the top supports are sturdy aluminum rod, not bent steel.

I'd recommend a nice set of panniers. I get by with fitting everything in the pair of bags. Computer, lunch, work clothes, shoes, things to "freshen up" once at work, etc...
