Dirt Jumps at Burchfield

Postby mjpo » June 22nd, 2011, 2:11 pm

I was at the park today picking up more signs, and the manager asked me when we were going to get started on the dirt jumps because "They sound really cool".

We are putting 4 rhythm sections in. 3 near the golf course, 1 by McNamara.

I need someone to take the lead on this. I will line you up and introduce you to the park manager, who will be a resource for equipment, dirt, etc.

Anyone interested? The door is wide open..............

If I knew what I was doing I would be more than happy to help out, but they may not end up being ideal jumps haha. Depending on schedules I'd be happy to lend a hand and learn something new though!

We were talking about this on the group ride Monday. We have potential for 4 jump areas (2 at Burchfield) but there isn't anybody willing/able to take the lead.

Much like JHew, I don't know the first thing about building a jump park other than it being piles of dirt.

I am interested. I have a little expreience from working at Anderson, and I have built some dirt jumps for motorcycles and BMX in the past. Ask CentralRH about my recent build experience. I still have some projects at Anderson to work on, but my availability is getting better. Let me know.

Felt6 - since you're interested, and perhaps the only person who knows anything about it, maybe you could leave the projects at Anderson to the others and focus on leading the dirt jump effort? Just a thought, I know this is all volunteer and we all do what we want to do ...

And think of all the people you can help learn to build good jumps - they might be able to do more at Burchfield and other locations in the future.

I could also likely move some dirt, if told where to stack it, and how high.

I don't want to commit to leading this effort but I can help (being in Jackson makes it s bit tough). I have built lots of snowboard and ski jumps in the past so I have some clue of what we need to do. Just setup a day and I will try to get out there.

Ok, It looks like we have some interest. Felt6, I am going to PM you. Please get in touch when you can. I can get you lined up.

Everyone else, I actually have diagrams on jump spacing, slope, etc. Knowledge on how to build is not as important as the willingness to throw some dirt! I appreciate the interest. I will get with Felt6 and see if we can get this thing going.

Thanks.

I've helped build moto-x jumps in the past, but was less involved with the planning than I would feel comfortable with doing it "on my own". But I'm really good at following plans so if there's something along those lines I'm sure we can get it all figured out :D.

Thanks to Felt6 for taking the lead on this. I am getting him lined up and introduced to the park guys this weekend.

The park has 400 yds of dirt for projects. We will get most of it. Park will supply bobcat, dumptruck, and employees to operate.

Felt6 will be coordinating initial work days based on availability of the park resources. I envision the park dumping dirt where we direct, then doing rough shaping with the bobcat. All of you guys stepping up will need to do the shovel work and final shaping. There will also be a bit of weedwhacking and mowing to set the trail to get to the jumps. More info to follow. Thanks for all the interest.

Definitely keep me in the loop as well and if someone can, post it to the FB page, hopefully more people will see it. I log on there at least once a day and forget about the forums sometimes. I can throw some dirt and have plenty of experience being the crash test dummy hucking over jumps to figure out how much they need to be tweaked. :P

We are under way. I am going out there to do some layout on Friday. It looks like there is plenty of dirt to do two or three lines with a decent grade. The Park will spray the existing mounds for weeds soon and I will have lanes identified for the approaches so they can mow those parts. As they become available I will coordinate with the parks resources for some trail day event where everyone can join in and lend a hand. Thank you all for the interest.
