Burchfield is Closed to Bikes

Burchfield is Closed to Bikes

Postby mjpo » November 30th, 2011, 9:46 am

This snow is supposed to melt, but please don't ride anymore this year. Trail is closed to bikes to prevent damage to trail. Thanks.

Is this an official closed, or a suggestion/request?

Closed as in "Do not enter"
Of course, this is only a suggestion, as there are no guards and/or snipers, so any damage you do will just be repaired by others in the spring.

Officially closed as in the park says the biking trails are closed.

When will they open? When the park says they are open and not any earlier.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I see riding as no more damaging than the hikers and skiers that will be using the trails. Are the trails closed to them as well?

No, it is not closed to them. So feel free to go hiking or cross-country skiing.
However, the park is closed for bikes for the season.

So if it dries up, and the trails are dry, you are saying that I cannot ride them?

Please let me know which part you are not understanding, and I will do my best to clarify it for you.

The clarification is the park is asking that bikes not be ridden on the Burchfield trails until further notice. This will be sometime in the Spring most likely.

Of course, this is only a request. We do not have the time nor the desire to track you to ensure this rule is obeyed. It it based on common decency as a mountain biker, and trail user. The park is not required to allow us to build trails, stunts, features etc. So, by not heeding their requests, they are not obligated to allow us to us the park, or continue to build.

This is a relationship we have with the park, based on mutual respect. However, if you choose not to respect these agreements, or relationships, that is your prerogative.

Just like next Spring, trail workers are not required to fix ruts, add miles, improve the "flow" or build features for riders, including yourself, to enjoy when applicable.

I understand that you are not one to follow rules put in place by "the man" or comply with requests. So do what you are going to do anyways, just don't come here bragging about your miles, or complaining about the poor condition of the trails.

In addition, we have to respect other seasonal user groups. Burchfield grooms for skiing, and skiiing in Lower Michigan isn't something that one can do just any day. Let the winter user group enjoy those trails, because they also buy park passes and help support a park that needs the funding.

I was simply asking. I am not out on the trails destroying them. I respect the trails, and your implication that I do not respect them is pretty crappy. I also follow the rules, and requests. I like how you have this whole situation played out for me. You have me riding the trails, coming here, and bragging about the miles, and then complaining about the trails. I like how you think that you can just predict what you see as the future, and publicly slander me in doing so.
