Mid-State Logo...

Postby jonw9 » February 25th, 2010, 9:21 pm

Last weekend there was some talk of perhaps updating the Mid-State logo, or creating a new one.

I personally do not have the skill necessary to do so, although I do have some minor Photoshop ability.

Is there somebody interested in the chapter that would like to take a stab at this?

What I have seen is the 2006/2007logo: http://midstate.files.wordpress.com/200 ... est_23.jpg

The 2008/2009 I believe was similar, with a silhouette of a rider on the outline of the state.

I dunno if we want to spit-ball ideas before proceeding, or get some submissions and have a vote on them. Perhaps the existing logo is a fan favorite. Perhaps we can take some ques from other chapter logos.

How about something like this?

The little icon I would use for the Events on the MMBA home page would be this:

The logo looks good, but do we need permission to use the rider?

I like the little "favicon", which would look good on the wordpress address bar.

The color leans more towards the Northern chapter (copper harbor area).

I like the idea of putting a border around our counties, or stars of our trails.

We could use this:

I personally would stay away from adding stuff to the middle. The rider position signifies "mid michigan." Also, adding more stuff would likely make it too busy.

The important thing is that we have a cool logo that people identify with us whenever they see it.

Then there is this one:

The reason why I went with gold (the original one is "gold metallic) is because it looked like metal. Cool.

Oh, hey, I just remembered. One of the biggest reason I went with gold is because it would look good on our web site. ;-) With that said, I would recommend either that or the silver. I'd like to put it at the top of the sidebar.

Keep in mind that the number of colors in the image and the type of printing drives the cost of the shirt as well. The latest design was right around $6 per shirt which was pretty inexpensive, but that was because of the color choices of the design as well as the shirts. It was also because they were able to use a dot matrix type print which was less expensive. Based on your design I am guessing that most places would probably have to screenprint that image which is going to cost more to get all the detail to show.

I wasn't complaining, I just thought "copper" when I saw it. It is not a bad thing.

I figured Chris was the rider, to continue the theme! ;)

I like the gold. we could change the MMBA to the black one, and reduce the number of colors.

Maybe we should set some sort of deadline, like 3 weeks, then have a poll for a vote for a week, and decide at the beginning of April?

Doh! I screwed up! Chris, we need to get together with some pine trees and a jump so we can make sure you're the one in the picture. ;-)

I could do a simpler version for t-shirts and we can reserve the detailed version for swank and web. :-D Something like this (but better):

or maybe this?

Now that I think about it, the color really doesn't matter as long as the logo itself is the same. So, we could go black and white or gold or blue or whatever, whenever. ;-)

You guys have some great ideas. I also like the idea of setting a time frame for submissions for our new logo. At that time we can pick the one we want to use; this way we give anyone who wants some time to design their own logo. But please keep posting your ideas and I am sure any feedback on the ideas posted will be helpful.

I'm itching to use the polling option on our blog. We can vote on our website. :-D

I know. Geek.

Personally I would like to see a logo that is more about the actual mid-state chapter. I feel the ones so far are much more about the whole state. That being said I don't really plan on coming up with anything.

what about something simpler? Something that shows what we do. Maybe a picture of some trail building tools with some sort of message like "We build so you can ride."

However, I'm not an artist. Heck, I can barely draw stick figures so I'm no help there.
