New Trail Location?

I figured with half-a-million dollars, maybe we can get them to put in a skills park or something?

Is the park the entire area south of the river and east of Aurelius? I believe much of that area is swamp, old oxbows, and river channels. From the aerial photo it appears that there is some higher ground near the gravel pit. If not too wet it would be great to see some singletrack that I could use on my commute. Someone please get working on it

Judging from the article, and the viewing the map, I would say that location is correct.

I have never heard of the park, and it was closed long before I was in Lansing. I am not sure of the landscape.

I wish we knew somebody that has worked with Murdock Jemerson in the past.

I know my way around Crego pretty well. Much of it is wet most of the time. The part of it that is between the rail lines, adjacent to MSU property, has the most potential. Access is from the River Trail.

To clarify: The Crego Park property is not an active City park now, but is not marked as “closed” from all the river frontage on the Rivertrail. The sign at Krueger’s Landing parking area on Aurelius Rd. still says “Ralph W. Crego City Park. It is the largest of many big city parks, and sits at the center of the largest swath of undeveloped woodlands in the City. The area has escaped the dozer because it is carved up by two expressways, two rail lines, two rivers and much flooding. As such, it isn’t the ultimate candidate for the next epic super-trail.

Reopening the Park might not help the state of the fragile informal trails but could give them more legitimacy.

Hmmm....with the wetness factor, maybe this is a candidate for more of a freeride, BC-style park. Bridges and such. I don't know. I've never been there so I can't make an educated decision. This would be the best time of year to check it out, though.

I agree Diane, this is the best time of year to see where the dry places are.

I’m not going to be the point person for lobbying the City for permission to build at Crego Park, should it be reopened to the public. I’m not even convinced that it is a good candidate yet. I do know my way around though and I’m willing to guide.

Every spring is a little different, but this much water is typical on the trails in from the River trail. The trail follows the highest ground. This kind of flooding is why they hope to install a boardwalk from the River Trail to access the Park.
