Last year we had stations out on the trail - pancakes in Expert, mimosas in the lost loop, bacon and sausage at the crater, eggs at the pump track, pastries, coffee, ... Nice idea, but setup - getting the tables, stoves, coolers, etc. out to the stations - and cleanup was a lot of work, and with the poor weather our volunteers got cold and lonely at their stations. We had to arrange for bacon delivery to these outposts to help them survive. Also, several families with young children came, and they could really only do a couple stations near the trailhead.
This year, we're staging everything at the big covered pavilion near the trailhead. It'll be different, but I think a lot more social. The picnic tables mean you'd be able to sit down to eat (vs standing holding a paper plate and balancing knife and fork) and chat. If the pancake station backs up, simply eat bacon while you're waiting. You'll be able to have coffee with your pastry, rather than having them 3 miles apart.
We'll see how this year at the pavilion goes. Perhaps if the turnout is good and we do this another year, we could set everything up at the pump track or something...
