Virtual run mapping?

Postby Buck91 » January 24th, 2012, 1:27 pm

Just curious if anybody knows where one might be able to "map" a run using something like google maps? Looking to throw a distance on various jogging routes near my house. I suppose I could get out there and ride a few clocking it with my cyclometer if nothing else fails- but I'm still trying to warm up after todays icey run!

Why not use the pedestrian trip planner in Google Maps, and just set the start and destination as your house and your neighbor's?

I use mapmyride.com to lay out routes beforehand to get an idea. The free version just has some annoying ads, but it isn't too bad to deal with.

I think there is a mapmyrun as well, but I am sure they work the same.

Google Earth > Ruler > Path is a nice quick solution for this.

I know on any Android device with Google maps, you can enter the lab section and check ruler. You can measure out any path you'd like with it.

I'll check out the google earth option, too, but mapmyrun.com worked perfect!

I like Gmap pedometer. It's simple and gets the job done.

I second this. Works great, and even has rail-trails included now.
