Island Lake Trail Day(s)

It's finally here some great opportunities at Island Lake (ILRA) have risen in the last few weeks. Dan Harrison, John Burt, and Rich Ouellette have been hard at work to keep the momentum going and have planned some great re-routes on the yellow loop.

As many of you already know ILRA is a trail that is in dire need of some TLC and after the heavy rains this spring the erosion and sand have become huge obstacles on this "beginner" trail system. It has been a long time coming, but the MMBA has approval for 3 re-routes on the yellow loop, and hope to work with the DNR on some other problem areas.

So come out and pitch in...any help is greatly appreciated.
the schedule is:
October 17th (Sun.) 9:30am - Noon (followed by the annual BBBB)
October 23rd (Sat.) 9:30am - 3:00pm full workday
October 24th (Sun.) 9:30am - 3:00pm full workday

Please dress appropriately...long pants boots, gloves, etc. Bring bug spray, water, snacks, and get lots of rest the night before

Tools:
Please bring wheel barrels, metal rakes, loppers, pruners, leaf rakes, and shovels.

I plan on being there for the 17 and maybe the 24 if I return in time from being out of town.

The 17th will be difficult to attend because of family commitments.

I will definitely be there on the 23rd. I would like to also show up on the 24th, but it will only be "half" the day, most likely after noon/1pm.

Wouldn't you know, I'll be out of town the weekend of the 23rd. Thank goodness there's another scheduled the weekend before. I'd be really, really bummed if I missed this.

Hey gang, I appreciate your willingness to commit to this task. Although you don't need to justify why you're only making certain dates.

The rebuilding of the trails at Island Lake is going to be a long term project that is only just coming into focus. Please come out and help, but I suggest you keep it in perspective . We'll work when we're fresh, accomplish what we can, train more trail users in proper techniques (there is a trail running group that is willing to pitch in with us for this operation) and when the majority of it is done, we'll still enjoy passing through the booths to get to the trailhead.

Come out when you can, don't feel bad when you can't.

There's going to be plenty of traildays to go around...

I really want to be there, but I have some thing or another going every day that it's happening. I can offer spotty time in 2 or 3 hour chunks, but I may not get there until after you've started. How do I find you?

For those that may need to come late or at the last minute.

This Saturday (after 101) and Sunday, we will be working the section of the Yellow leading down to Kensington Road. Just walk in backwards from the Kensington Road bridge and listen to the happy voices in the woods...
