During today's windstorm (Saturday 10/30) there were trees falling all around me. Many of them across the trail. There was a pretty bad one in a blind turn at the end of Gosling. I'm sure there are lots more. I rode around noon. Anyone ride later in the day?

trail marker numbers for full ride

Postby TeamTayberry » October 31st, 2004, 11:19 pm

What would be the proper sequence of trail numbers (per the sra map) to complete the full 18 miles everyone talks about?

Thanks!

Rode Poto Sunday 10/31. Most of the blowdowns had been cleared. Thanks to whomever did that!

Rode 11/2

Rode 11/2. Slippery when wet, the leaves make it interesting. Traction minimal.

Rode it today, 12-5-04, and it was in fair shape. Some sections that you usually bomb had to be ridden more slowly, due to the snot-slick mud film on them. The new reroute is horrible, mostly because it is new. A few small downed trees and overgrowth. One tree looked as though a hunter had blown a hole through the trunk. Still rideable, but a few sections are becoming bad.

3/31/05 Poto Trail Conditions

Postby PotoKing » March 31st, 2005, 11:31 am

I checked out a mile of trail last night. There's still many muddy and soft spot, with ice and snow on shaded north slopes. I would say that this weekend is out. If the weather stays warm and dry, it may be ready in a week.

Overall, the winter has been good to the trail...only a couple of "pizza cutting" have riden the trail so far. If people stay off the trail this weekend, the trail will be sweet in mid April.

Poto Status

Postby allenduncan » April 5th, 2005, 12:09 pm

I called Pinckney SRA headquarters yesterday and was told that the trail would be closed through the end of the week. ....though I've had several people tell me they've ridden. I haven't been out there to see for myself, but wondered what the "official" status is

I spoke with Park Manager Jon Labossiere yesterday afternoon. It is officially open now, and the signs are coming down.

Rode out there today. There's a big tree down less than 1/4 mile before that last climb to the lookout.

Rode the 14 mile loop on Sat. 4/16. Trail is in great shape, although, dare I say, it could use a little rain  All of the uphills are do-albe, but without some moisture they will become harder to climb.

WORD: There is still a VERY LARGE tree across the trail shortly after you re-enter the trail at the shortcut spot (off of the dirt drive in). It's around a bend and will catch you by surprise if you're going fast!!! Well, even if you're going slow too. You must dismount and pick up you bike and climb over the trunk which is about 3 ft. in diameter. A chainsaw and a few good men will be needed to clear this monster. BEWARE!
