Many thanks to all the lumberjacks and jills who cleared those big trees in the first few miles. Sorry I didn't help, but you guys are too quick!

Anyone know what those white ribbons are for in the first few miles?

I came upon a group of 6 guys with trail tools today, wondered what they were up to. Didn't look like mt bikers--they were walking the wrong way on the trail (their backs to me) down the hills just past signpost 12.

oh, and there is a whole lotta lumber awaiting a construction project south of Doyle Rd, where that big slimy climb has grown to a 12 foot wide section of trail. Anyone know what's planned?

dry and fast. Weekend traffic on the Poto clears out the leaves, and with zero precip lately, it is like a smooth highway in spots. Some folks did some nice trail work west of Hankerd Rd, ie dug some storm runoff channels in eroded areas.

All fall I have seen zero other bikers on the Poto midweek at about 10 am.

There is one tree down about 1-2 miles in.

You can see it plenty ahead of time so it's not dangerous, but I had to walk my bike over. Other than that the trail was great.

I was wondering about this. I'm thinking about making the trek up to do Poto again next week and I'm wondering how the leaves will be. Lots of roots in spots and I'd like to be able to see them :P . Does the weekend Poto traffic really get rid of the leaves substantially? I'm hoping to ride Poto on Monday or Tuesday of next week (10/31 and 11/1)...

I don't think seeing lines ever becomes too big of an issue at the Poto. Leaves come down, but get pulverized fairly quickly if they are on the trail due to the heavy trail traffic. I rode today and didn't have any issues seeing roots or rocks.

Did the Poto on Saturday (10/29). Pretty dry surface so very loose and sandy. Leaves not really a problem. One tree across the trail at mile 2 or 3.

jajones wrote:Poto was excellent today. No snow on 99% of the trail. No mud. Just hardpack frozen ground. I got out in the morning thinking that I'd need to beat the sunshine melt warm-up by midday. It never came and the trail never softened. Tomorrow looks to be just as good if you get out in the morning. The only difference is it looks like there might be a slight dusting of snow on the ground.

J, what do you think of the new re-route now that it has had some time to bed in?

I rode the poto today and it was pretty good save one or two spots where there's a little bit of mud, most of it stayed frozen even with the higher temperatures. However, the new reroute was muddy as heck - but it looks to be a good solution to the washout that was going on there. Right now though, if it's not frozen it's way off camber & slick. Couple of downed trees along the way, but nothing that sneaks up on you too badly.

This morning the trail was frozen and generally free of snow/ice, some sections had limited granular snow/ice including all the bridges. Reroute was frozen solid and a bit rough but over all in great shape. ORV tracks were evident for a couple of miles leading up to and beyond the sand hill prior to the “shortcut”. Overall great conditions on a great trail, watch the weather, get up early and enjoy the winter riding.

The new reroute will be great, but will need a few tweaks and some regular season riding-in to get 'er rolling. The small tree on the corner at the "bottom of the valley" where the trail turns to go up again needs to be clipped. Right now, it hinders that off camber corner. The "hump" where the new trail crosses the old needs to be cropped down and smoothed.

Right now, the new reroute section gets muddy fast when the sunshine melt hits because it is largely south facing and we raked off all the insulating autumn trail detris off the trail tread in doing the reroute. I think once these few issues are addressed, it will be perfect!

Rode Poto this morning after snowstorm. Heavy, wet snow has many new branches and trees down. Some are down temporarily under the weight of the snow, while some will be down for good.

Rode the full loop @ Poto this morning - frozen trail surface thru lunch, but some very slick icy patches...

Has anyone ridden the Poto yet since the frost came out of the ground? If ILRA Yeloow is ready, I assume Poto is inpretty good shape since it drains the best.
