The new loop isn't 16 miles though. It is around a mile and is PART of a new 16 mile stacked loop system being worked on.

I was up their last fall for the bike festival and could not stop laughing to my self. what I want to know is were should I camp.

At the last split, if you go left the single track dumps out into an old defunct campground known as pine knoll. As long as your self-sustained, you could camp right there, but you didn't hear that from me.

There's an official state campground just west of HH on Lake Margarethe, but you'll have to share it with trailer pullers. If you drive east of town on M-72 out to Burton's Landing, there's a primitive campground on the Au Sable. You'll have to share that one with pretentious, cigar-smoking, 7"brook trout catching, lying, bamboo waving fly fisherMEN. I don't know which is worse.

There is also the campground at Hartwick Pines State Park north of Grayling by a few miles. HartwickPines is connected to Hanson Hills by a non-motorized paved bike path. Hartwick Pines has the groomed xc trails to ride if you want as well. They aren't singletrack though.

Camping at Hanson Hills is not recommended because there isn't an authorized camping area except during the bike festival when the campground spoken about earlier is utilized.

Hartwick Pines has a great campground.

Haven't ridden here before yesterday. Trail was in excellent shape. Great flow - wish it was closer.

Right at the left hand as you would start the gnarly downhill near the end, There is a tree wedge against another about shoulder high blocking the trail. Had to dismount and lay bike at angle to slide it through then do the same myself.

Better yet, grab a chain saw and a friend and remove the tree.
That would be the ultimate good gesture. 8)

HANSON HILLS WITHOUT A DOUBT. THE TRAILS AT HARTWICK PINES ARE WIDE, GROOMED XC TRAILS THAT HAVE TONS OF SAND. PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO HAVE SOME NEW SINGLETRACK AT HARTWICK PINES BUT THAT IS A WAYS OFF.

ENJOY HANSON HILLS.

IF YOU COME ACROSS LOGS OR OTHER TRAIL OBSTRUCTIONS, PLEASE REMOVE THEM FROM THE TRAIL IF YOU CAN. IT MAKES IT BETTER FOR THE NEXT RIDER AND FOR YOUR NEXT TIME RIDING THE TRAIL.

EVERY LITTLE BIT OF TRAIL CLEANUP HELPS EVERYONE. so much for my trail advocacy soap box.
