Mid-State: Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow

Rode sleepy hollow today and found some down trees near #2 trail. Also there are several muddy spots on the trail. Give it another couple of weeks with no rain and it should be in good shape. One of the section that crosses over the horse trail the bike trail ends in a swamp you have to portage around to get back on the trail and watch out for the mud. 8)

Sleepy Hollow

Postby Corunna » June 5th, 2008, 6:00 pm

The grass is getting high again and the trails still have down trees. I am going to try and meet with the park ranger on Friday to see if we can get the down trees cut up. Even if I have too get the trusty chainsaw and do it myself. The trails are mostly dry. The only thing it needs are more riders.

Today was a great day

Postby Corunna » June 23rd, 2008, 3:30 pm

All the down trees have been removed. The grass has been mowed. Just be carefull of the foot bridge it tends to take your front wheel out from underneath you when wet. Yes I took a pretty good spill today. Had a very pleasent ride. Need more riders out there.

If there are anyone that would like to volunteer please let me know we are trying to set up some trail days and some races at sleepy hollow.

Sleepy holliow was great today

Postby jweller007 » July 4th, 2008, 10:30 pm

Celebrated the 4th by riding and kayaking at Sleepy Hollow. Trail is in great shape-especially given the storms last week. How many riders does it take to wear out more of the grass? Once again I didn't see anybody else on the trail once i got away from the lake.

Rode the trail on July 24th. It was clear and no problems. I thought it was a pretty good workout, could use some more riders.

9-3-08 nice

Postby water-ratt » September 5th, 2008, 9:34 pm

Did a couple loops on the holiday, everything's nice. My first time here in a while; only problem was the creek between 8 and 9? (or so) i was riding the wrong way i guess and almost ended up in the water :o

also tons of poison ivy!! new incentive to stay on the bike and on the trails!

It would be great if we could put a bridge over that river inbetween 8 and 9 or make it so its crossible. It would be even better if we could put a sweet single track inbetween sections 13 through 2. This area is fast but could be technical with a good single track.

Keep hearing something about a race, but not much in detail until I found:

I would suggest avoiding Sleepy Hollow for a while longer. Much of the trail stays wet or even under water late into the spring / early summer.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

On Two Wheels, Jackson, MI

I ventured out there a few weeks ago and it was mostly mud and standing water, even on the two track sections that aren't part of the trails. I would avoid until probably mid June at this point.

This trail rails in late summer/early fall, once the clay dries out.
