HCP Spring Trail days

Postby Nelg » January 12th, 2011, 4:35 pm

The ground may be covered in white, but it's time to start planning ahead for spring! We have lots of work to do at the High Country Pathway clearing dead fall, brushing back face slappers and scrub and putting up the new signage. We'll be doing at least two trail days this spring, the tentative dates are April 30th and May 14th. The plan is to do the Vanderbilt side one weekend and the Atlanta side the other, camping will be at Clear Lake and at Pigeon Bridge.

As for what to bring? Typically we are clearing dead fall so a chainsaw or pruning works well. If you have a backpack that works with said chainsaw, even better. I'll have an extra pack to loan out, it won't be pretty but it will be functional. And of course, you'll need your bike and any supplies you need to keep your body happy.

Lets get this thing whipped in to shape shape for the summer solstice ride and show people why it's designated an IMBA epic!

It's not epic if you end up in Macinaw City. ;)

It is epic when you try to convince 2 other riders, one of which being TMB, that they are going the wrong way. Or when you fart around for 45 minutes trying to find the trail continuing on from Town Corner Campground.

Has the low boardwalk bridge east of M33 been repaired?

I know that a short replacement section has been fabricated, we just need to install it during the next trail day.

I would love to come up, but my schedule is pretty consistent and I'll be working both of those weekends. Any chance of moving forward or back a weekend for either the April or May date?

We will more than likely have another one, we need to sort out the Stihl certification class date first. Keep an eye on this thread for more info.

So the April 30th is at Clear Lake. and May 14th is at Pigeon Bridge?
Is the snow gone?
Who is going up? On what dates? Anyone interested in carpooling up from Grand Haven, Spring Lake or the general west side? I am thinking of riding Aspen park in Grayling on friday on the way up and then ride Hanson Hills on sunday on the way back home.

Yes, we have Clear Lake camping reserved for the overnight of April 29th and 30th. We'll camp at Pigeon Bridge on May 14th and 15th.

So far the snow is indeed gone, hope it doesn't come back. :)

See you then!

How about some warmer temperatures for camping this year  .

Depending on what Mother Nature and my Better Half say, I should be able to make this.
