Stinchfield Loppet, 2/27, 10am

Stinchfield Loppet: this Sunday, 2/27, 10am. A great trail system with big hills and views. This will be a friendly no-drop/wait-up event with snack-stops. A chance to get to know Stinch w/o getting lost! (Park at Professional Bldg just west of Nor. Terr. & Dext-Pinck intersection. Trail goes N across road.)

For x/c ski newbies, a loppet is a x/c ski outing. Like Nike says "just do it".

Thanks, Bernie. Note: This is ADVANCED skiing. Big hills with good run-outs. Long climbs. Challenging but safe. Among the best skiing in the LP. Better than the Vasa trail in some ways. We won't be racing, but we won't be ski-walking. Some of us will be jamming, then stopping for snacks at intersections. If you're a cruiser you won't get dropped and you can catch your breath and bearings, see where you are. You can get lost out here. But it's a good lost -- lasts 45 mins at most, I've found. BYO for 3 hrs of fun.

Thinking about heading out for this, about how many miles does the outing end up being?

Wow, that was a nice ski day. Just about perfect 2 track set, for the entire ski. Thanks Jeff, I love it when good conditions coincide with a scheduled event.

30+ skiers!! Better than expected, and a nice mello pace, not. Still a cool gig, with spring snow conditions. The group was kept surprizingly together, and excellent scenery was everywhere. The hills of Stinch didn't disapoint, with some fools actually doing teles down tele central. Scandalous.

Thanks to all who made the 2nd leg of the MI back country ski series.

The 3rd, and final leg is the Jordan Jam which will either be Saturday March 12 or Sunday March 13. Not for anyone but solid back country skiers, the Jordan Jam ,if enough snow to be held, is one of the most scenic, and technically challenging loops in all of MI. 19 miles of constant climbs and descents, all steep with little, or no runout. NIce, but demanding, so be sure you can do it if you go. It is a solid 6 + hours and can go 11. Carrying plenty of food and fluids is mandatory. Bring a light and spare clothing for your pack. The event starts @ 9 am @ the dead end on Dead Man's Hill rd off 131. I will post out again once the final date is chosen. Like the Stinch Loppet, the Jordan Jam is a brisk tour, just trickier.

Ski you out there. Cheers, JR / RadNord
