Join us by celebrating National Trails Day on June 4th from 9am-12noon at the Cannonsburg State Game Area. Meet at the 4-mile parking lot. We need lots of help with a major re-route around a muddy area in section 3, removing the plastic mat and repairing the end of the trail and trimming face slappers.

Bring gloves, water, boots, bug spray, a rake and some pruners or lopers

Lunch provided at noon

That "plastic mat" you guys are going to remove is that Geo Webbing your talking about taking out ?
Curious about the circumstances as to it's removal . We have A LOT of that stuff on the Poto and it's current condition is in "discussion" mode and removing it did not come up .

the geo web is so old school and looks hideous on any trail. there are many other ways to armor the trail with better results and appearance. of course you know all this...

I believe Chris is actually doing a re-route in this area and we will reclaim the geo web area to its natural state.

Gotcha . That was my view for the stuff at the Poto . Reroute if possible , and leave the webbing in place to finally do some repair to an eroded section of trail . Although on some of those spots on the Poto it's also going to need some check damming to repair the avoidance lines users have established . Should be interesting work if it ever gets approved .

I believe the geoweb is different from what is at csga and yankee. What we have is called groundmaster I believe. We basically rolled it out on top of the trail like a rug and nailed in it with big spikes. Very easy to remove. It was originally designed to line horse stalls with - so their liquid waste would drain through, but tough enough to stand up to their hooves.

We need a lot of help on this trail day! The Game Area needs some serious help in many locations so now is your chance to make a difference. Chris could use about 30-40 people, not the usual 10.

Yes as Rick said we need help so spread the word ASAP. June 4th at 9 am. Meet at the Trail head... plenty of work to do.

My plan for the mat is to re-use it in the low area to separate the "wet" stuff from the "dry". It works well by keeping the new fill from sinking into the muck. I've used about 40-50 feet of it as an underlayment then put chips and dust (crushed concrete) on top. cant even tell its there now. It is a good idea however to make sure your fill dirt of choice is corralled by lining both sides of the tread with a barrier of sorts to keep from having the fill be pushed off the tread and exposing the nasty mat crap. I used real cedar log posted spiked into the ground with rebar. its done the trick very well for 2-3 years now.
And John is correct, it is a different mat vs the Poto stuff. very different. the Poto stuff would work the way ours did.

Big Bump! We need bodies. There is a 1/4 mile new piece of trail to cut. It is going to be really nice with the occasional rock pile, stream side view, pines, etc. Please come out and help, we all know how bad the big mud hole is this year. It is time to do away with it for good!

Rode a couple laps tonight. Looking good! Give it some time to wear in the reroute. Awesome job reclaiming and covering up the old trail. That is such an important job that often gets left for scraps. Thanks to all!
