New Crystal mountain downhill

Postby jh321 » July 26th, 2011, 3:53 pm

I know there's a thread on crystal and few topics down, but I figured I'd start a new one to see if anyone has gone recently or knows anymore info.

I have called them and the lady said to come and check it out and said there's "challenging trails" and that the downhill ones are the same as the cross country ones...? :?:

Does anyone know anymore info or have been there? I mean, I'll be riding an izimu but I figured I could take the lift to as far as it goes and then hike for a while to get up farther to find some fun stuff.

I'm sure that it won't be like highlands but a day of biking can't be that bad. Even if we just hike up a bit and try and find natural terrain jumps and build on them by hand. *beep*, if they get enough interest they may build stuff next year

one of my buddies went a couple weeks ago and said you just ride down the ski runs. Their "bike pro" is supposed to build trails, but has not. He said the betsie and XC oriented stuff was worth the drive though.

Lift tickets are $15. And I figured that there may be just going down the ski runs, but what I also figured was that there would be some natural terrain jumps to find. I bet they'd let us borrow a shovel or two if the bike pro guy does nothing. Do we actually want to plan this? I am thinking of going to crystal one day and highlands another

The trail/s from the top of Crystal down to the bottom - same ones featured in the Peak to Peak race this fall, are a hoot! Fast, twisty, loamy dirt.

Ol' school downhill fun for sure, but factor in all the XC trails in and around Crystal/betsie river area, and it's a fun trail system.
Five fingers, three chords, and one *beep*.....!

That doesn't sound bad at all then. I'll be heading there sometime this week probably

there are also some fun hiking trails right in elberta which is only like 20 min drive from there.. I have riden out there a few time and a few of the trails out that way warrant a long travel bike.. I was thinking maybe i will come up sunday and hit up copper ridge and elberta and if i have time stop at crystak and see if my season pass works there.. they said when i bought it that it started april 1st so i will have to see.

I've heard that the DH is just down the ski runs for now, but there are plans in the future to offer more. :D

I drove by Crystal last Thursday on my way to camp at Sleeping Bear Dunes. They had some serious earth moving going on on the main face under the chair lift that provide bike lift service... not sure what that means though, sorry.

I understand they are building a new chairlift on the thor/loki face.

Hmmm. A second, parallel chairlift, or a replacement? Thats the face/lift they told me would have the bike service. The whole effort seems pretty half-hearted.
