Stony Creek Slalom Workday Aug. 6th.

Instead of skimming through 5 pages of stuff, I figured I'd start a new thread. If you have been following the other thread (referenced here: http://www.mmba.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=96606), we've got the dirt, we've placed the dirt, now we need to love the dirt into shape.

The official work day will kick off Saturday August 6th at 10 am. Bring a strong back and a willingness to dig. We'll be doing a lot of hand shaping and digging. Feel free to spread the flyer around.

Just a reminder, we are having a build day this Saturday. Dirt is on site and ready to dig. We need lots of help and I haven't gotten much feedback as far as numbers to expect.

If you are planning on coming out Saturday, please post up here so I can get a rough head count. Come on people, where are all the folks who kept asking about the track? We need you! Thanks!

I don't have any tools to bring but I like to work hard and get dirty. Hopefully I can make it for a few hours to help out.

The MMBA Metro North Tool trailer will be onsite. We should have plenty of tools. No problems there. What we need are strong backs.

I didn't realize that a new thread had been started, apologies for the double post.

I went for a ride @ Stony yesterday and stopped by the track and several new loads of dirt had been dumped. When I went back today I saw that the loader had spread the dirt along your original layout, almost like a two track. After being there a while an employee stopped by (I think it was the loader operator) and was asking about the course because he couldn't envision it. I showed him the blue print and then asked if the park would be providing loader assistance on Saturday and he stated that he didn't believe so.

Below are some pics from today to save you a trip out there and to help you formulate a plan for build day. As of now it has the tight turns (2, 3 & 4) with an uphill to turn 5 layout. I am not sure if you decided to stick with that or not, but either way I think that a bobcat might be necessary, if that's even possible. Otherwise it might take more then a few build days to get it completed.

Well not exactly. I was going to move things around a little from the second turn as per discussions with Matt and yourself. I'm headed out shortly to take a look. Should be a good night for digging. Also, First berm's starting to look good.

As you say this is going to take a lot of work.

We had a pretty successful workday today despite a relatively low turn out. Five of us spent four hours moving dirt and shaping jumps. It was hard humid work. I drank five bottles of gatoraide and a litter of water and never had to pee.

A lot of progress was made. We finished the first two rollers, and the first corner. We moved dirt for a small table and cut in another 2 corners and a chicane section. These still need final shaping. That leaves the two longest straights and one more corner and a lot of shaping. We still have a long way to go to get this thing finished. Please stay tuned for the next workday in the next few weeks.

Also please note: Until we get everything shaped and packed, we ask that people stay off the course. Nothing worse than having to go back and make repairs before we are finished. If you really want to ride, pick up a shovel, and lets get it finished. If you want to work during the week pm me and I'll give you an assignment.

Sorry I couldn't make it. Wifey was stuck at work all day, so I didn't have the car to use.

If you anyone is going out to work on sections before the next workday, let me know and I can usually make it out most any afternoon with a couple shovels and a couple strong backs.

I just need a day or two notice since I live an hour or so away.

I'll likely be out this Wednesday night and every coming Wednesday until it's finished or it's covered in snow, which ever comes first. I usually aim for 6mp or a little after.

I tried to stop by today and see how things were going, but the parking lot was closed. Any idea why?

No idea...
I was up there around 8:30 AM and I think I saw a car in the lot???
I came and went via the Trolley trails so the entrance could have been closed and I never would have seen it???
I didn't see anything going on that would have cause it to be closed.....

Pete.
