HOG WILD: Wild pig problem growing in Mich! Anyone seen any?

Postby dawsonn57 » June 30th, 2011, 9:34 am

Taken From Daily Tribune Oakland County

“I have spoken to people during bow hunting season this last fall who have actually happened across some in the Highland rec area,” said state Sen. Mike Kowall, R-White Lake. “They are close to home — that’s basically my backyard.”

Yup seen one in Kalkaska Co. while deer hunting my brother's property last year. I must say some of the best tasting pork we have ever ate. Big sow dressed out at 263 lbs. Tried to get one of the little bastards that were running with her but man can they run. He has taken 2 more since then one was a piglet we roasted it whole over oak that was the best tasting pork I have ever had. No I take that back the best tasting pork I ever had was the one I speared while the wife and I were in Vanuatu. Mmmmm Kava. love that stuff

Once the turn feral they are just like any other wild animal, they tend to stay aways from humans if at all possible. But you corner one of those things or catch them of guard, all can say is I hope can pedal fast or atleast faster then the person your riding with at the time.

Hmmm, incomplete sentence and bad capitalization skills. Obvious sign of an MSU "education".

I hope they don't invade your trails, we have them on a few and they can cause some serious damage. Ride a trail one day sweet fast, the next a 100ft section looks like a rototiller went down it. They are not very offten seen by riders only the damage. We had a trapper come out to one trail, we thouhgt we had 4 or 5 he caught 20 the 1st day.

Believe me, if I see one this year, I will be putting it down on the spot, crossbow, bow, or 300winmag. We have been watching this issue in the hunting and fishing realm for over a year now. The DNR has issued a shoot on site with ANY hunting license in possession. So if you have a small game, waterfowl, deer, bear, or elk license on your person, you can shoot any hog you see regardless of whether it is about to do damage or not. I can live with 200lbs of bacon in the freezer.
