Save the Date: Burchfield Time Trial on Oct. 2, 2011

Postby ldeyoung » June 1st, 2011, 4:58 pm

The Mid-State Chapter and MiSCA are hosting a new race this year! On Sunday, October 2, join both youth and adult racers for the Burchfield TT at Burchfield Park in Holt. The 10-12 mile course includes twisty, technical sections and a few areas with fast, sweeping turns, plus new sections of the trail added within the past year. Most obstacles have bypasses, but some may require a quick dismount for beginner riders.

Youth racers, including those participating in MiSCA, may choose from male or female varsity (sport), JV (beginner) or middle school classes for $15. Adult racers may choose from A (sport/expert), B (beginner/clydesdale) or female classes for $20.

Burchfield’s central location makes it a great destination for racers from all over the state, and Lansing-area riders will be happy to have a race in their own backyard. Put this new race on your calendar, or better yet, register today! As a bonus, anyone who registers for the Burchfield TT will save $5 on a Mid-State Poker Run entry. (The Poker Run happens on Sunday, July 31 at Burchfield; more information is available at http://midstate.mmba.org.)

Registration and additional event information are available through BikeReg.com: http://www.bikereg.com/events/register. ... ntid=13563

This sounds great; I will definitely sign up. Thanks a lot for organizing it.
Why no 2 laps for sport/expert, as in the CPS?

rvd, I believe this was mostly a logistical decision. We'll try single laps for all classes this year and see how it goes. Looking forward to seeing you out there!

Logistics is a big part. Also because 10-12 miles is what the MiSCA racers are accustomed to.

Actually most MTB time trials seem to fall into this mileage. It just depends on the trail. For example, the Pontiac Lake TT is one lap of about 9.5 miles for Sport and Beginner and two laps for Expert/Elite, the Stony and Ft Custer TT's are one lap of about 13 miles for all, but they have a lot of faster sections so the overall speed is higher. It looks like Maybury TT will follow the same number of laps as the Pontiac TT but I'm not sure of what the mileage is this year.

Anyone planning on making it to this? The thread is a little too quiet for my liking. Hoping to see a bunch of people out. Great chance to get the tweens and teens entered in their first race......Great chance to get some late season competition in before Iceman....Great chance to ride Burchfield without wearing BUG SPRAY.....great chance to find out what MiSCA is all about and get a team started in Greater Lansing!

Without bug spray? That won't happen until late November.

Met with Steve Kinley today. He is the guy who has taken on the enormous responsibility of running MiSCA. Thanks to Jon for taking him around Burchfield on two wheels today too. The point of the post to to let you all know how excited I am about this event. We have the start/finish figured out, and most of the course planned as well. It will be between 9-10 miles, utilizing 90% singletrack (if the weather cooperates)!!

The mosquitoes are still out in full force. Tenspeed may be right about November!

This will be a fun race and different than the usual races we have in Michigan in that the course will have tighter trails in spots than some riders will be used to. But with little climbing it will sit the more technical rider rather than the power guy that can't corner. There are still plenty of areas for passing. It should be pretty venue in the fall as the leaves are turning and you are within sight of the Grand River in many spots.

I hope we get a lot of adults to come out as well, maybe a family challenge for the best time?
