How's the trail looking in terms of snow cover? Is the dirt track clear of snow? How about mud?

I'd love to get out before it snows or rains more; weather forecast looks like high 40's and rain Sunday :(

Much appreciated.

I also try to avoid big mud holes if possible. It just makes a mess I'd rather not have to clean. However it seems you really like the stuff. Hey If you ever want me to dump a bucket of mud on you and your bike just let me know and I'd be happy to oblige!

There's not any real snow cover yet. This time of year, you want to ride only when the ground is somewhat frozen and solid. Later in the day, it's slimy soup.

Thanks,

Maybe I'll just wait and go out tomorrow morning instead of this afternoon.

billips, I am going to ride tomorrow am when the ground is frozen. It is a great ride, but watch for the slippery leaves....
Hope is not a good strategy.

Beautiful 21 degree morning for a ride. Kind of wish I had remembered my gloves, but bare fingers did just fine in the moose mitts.

Thanks to all who have avoided riding when the trail is soft. There's a few areas of ruts, but not nearly as bad as it might have been. There are a number of trees down on both the singletrack and the two track. We'll get to them sooner or later, but in the mean time - use caution!

I enjoy riding as much as the next person. I don't however, enjoy cleaning all of the mud out of my bike every single time I ride. If it can be avoided, I avoid it. No need to purposely blast through a mud hole, just because.

I've been traveling and haven't been on the trail for a few days, but the weather forecast for Saturday night is snow and mid 20s - an early Sunday ride should be perfect. Just do it before things soften up.

A number of us did the aforementioned Sunday morning ride. 30 degrees and perfect trail conditions. Finished before any softening occurred. We moved 2 good sized trees, rode over 2 more, noticed a new logpile engineered from a fallen tree (nice job), and had to climb over 2 big ones. One was right after the real sharp off-camber right-hand downhill turn (you know the one). I forget where the other one was.

Thanks for the help!

We cleared a couple trees on Sunday, but there's more to be done. Gotta think about that tree down across the trail on the climb after the switchback... the sadistic side to me would really like to see a nice log pile on that climb.

Did all the whole trail system this morning between 10:45 and 12. Trail was covered in about an inch of icy snow and there was a light drizzle.
The pine tree sections had no snow at all which was cool. The wood bridges were fine to cross (no sudden movements !), but the log piles were a little
slick. Watch out for the many snow filled now frozen tire ruts, they'll grab your tire before you know it.
Had a great ride and really enjoyed the solitude and peace of this fine trail today. Puddles were forming as I was finishing up at 12 1/2 mile.
I love mountain biking because I haven't found anything that is more FUN !!
Of all the paths you choose in life....make sure some of them are DIRT !!

Commuting miles in 2012 = 1065
Total road/trail miles = 2800
Number of rides = 152
Trails ridden = 28 different in MI, 2 in Oregon
