Best route from Rochester Hills to Stony

Postby xycarp » March 15th, 2012, 7:08 am

Looking to have a 25-30 mile day. We are going to start near the intersection of Crooks and Hamlin roads. The plan is to get to Stony ride the pines / coaster then get back to Crooks and Hamlin.

Currently thinking about taking

Clinton River trail to Paint Creek Trail
Paint Creek Trail to Snell Road
Snell Road to Sheldon Road... then in the back gate

Good idea? Any better paths?

Why not include Bald. Mt. North, it is only a short up hill off of paint creek trail. We use to have a fall ride that used that route. I think that Karen use to run/lead that ride.
Any way it will be a great day for a long ride.

Are you looking for the shortest, safest, or indirect and hilliest route?

Most direct from CRT would either be Letica to the HS ad up Sheldon.

My preferred route if I'm looking for more road is CRT to Dequindire to the connector path in the main gate through the trolly trails and halfway around the bikini loop to the main trailhead.

I usually ride right past Stony and head north for extra dirt road miles.

I'd say:

CRT to MOT
MOT to Shelby
Shelby N into Stony Creek via paths.
Lap of Trolly Trails (on your left just as you enter the park after the long-ish climb).
Road in Stony Creek to West Branch Lot / MTB Trailhead.
Lap of Stony Creek MTB trails.
Exit via pedestrian entrance on to Sheldon.
Sheldon to Tienken to Letica.
CRT (at bottom of hill of Letica) west back to Hamlin/Crooks.

This is the route I take almost daily to get from Hamlin and Livernois to Stony, avoids most traffic
