I'm game. I work in Milford and live just north in Holly. PM me when you're available and we'll hit the trails.

Go ride Island Lake! It is a great learner trail. It has a little bit of every thing!
If you ride after work, the parking lot will be full of riders, from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm. Most riders are very friendly, so just introduce your self.

1, major tip: keep your weight on the rear wheel (butt rearward on the saddle) when ridding down hill and thru sand or mud!
2, Please learn to brake with both wheels, don't skid the rear wheel around turns.

Before you know it you will be craving 2 inches of snow so you can ride Novi in the dark with lights.

Have fun,

Roy

The Outspokin' Mountain Biking Club is an informal group of riders based roughly out of the "Huron Valley" area that share an email list and a facebook page. All different levels of riders. Usually someone is riding somewhere most days a week. Usually Island Lake, Brighton, Poto, Maybury or Milford. PM me for more info or check out facebook.

As you've found, Highland probably wasn't the best choice for your first trail ride :)

There's the endurance thing, but it also requires good bike handing skills to avoid getting hurt. We have a group ride at Lakeshore Park each Tuesday evening at 6:30 that you're welcome to join. We'd be happy to help you develop the skills to help you survive Highland, Poto, or Pontiac Lake.

ill have to check lakeshore out. highland was defiantly not the best choice for a first ride but at the same time it gave me a goal to work towards. and the fact of finishing it without walking straight through with my bike made it worth while.

Try Milford Trail it is like a Highland lite. You have guts to try Highland as your fist trail hats off to you. If you are interested I do a lot of dirt road training during the week. I could meet you at Hartland High School and take you on a long ride with plenty of hills in the evening during the week,
this will help the endurance a ton, but you still need the trails for handling skills.
