My 4 year old just dropped his training wheels this morning!

Postby davedejonge » March 28th, 2012, 11:36 am

Very proud Dad here. He's not the earliest to do it, or the best yet, but he'd on 2 wheels now.

I asked him if I could raise them up a bit more, and he said, lets just take them off. He started to ride away as I was holding the seat, He says, "Let go dad your slowing me down"

Very cool moment for me.

thats all,

have a great day.

Nice!

A few years back my 4yr old wanted rid of her training wheels. She took right to the 2 wheel thing. Her 13mo older sister was having none of it, so they both learned on the same day.

That is awesome! My kid is all about seeing daddy on his bike and loves looking at bike magazines, but could care less about actually riding a bike. Maybe that means he will work in a bike shop someday.

A very proud moment for any father, indeed!
I learned at four, myself.
We lived on the corner of the block, and we had fencing right along the sidewalk.
I rode one-handed, while moving my other hand along the fence, until I got it.

get that smile off your face dad
you're embarrassing me

mine just switched to 20 inch wheels
pretty soon there is no catching them
Fun stuff indeed

As I read your account I was transported to the first time I let go of my son's saddle on a little grassy downhill and then watched his wild grin as he rode circles around me. These are great moments.

Two weeks ago My son and I took a long cycling weekend ahead of his 16th birthday. We road tripped to Brown County SP in Indiana and then on to North Carolina. Day 1 at BCSP I was waiting at the bottom of the descents for him to catch up. Day 2 at Pisgah the waiting was substantially diminished. Day 3 started on the Blue Ridge Parkway as a result of wet and foggy conditions. He hit 40mph on the paved descents even with full knob 29ers. That evening at Dupont SF I heard the following: "Get off the brakes or let me through." Very proud. Slightly humiliated.

haha Congrats Dad(s)...my First is Due in June and I have already been day dreaming about getting him/her riding. Every time the wife and I wander by RBS, I eye-screw the Strider bikes. Figure, I will be the proud Father of a owner of one within the next 24 months or so.

I have the pleasure at this moment to be employed, working in the City of Rochester Park. Just in the last three weeks I have seen some of the smallest kids ever riding 2 wheels (sans training wheels)..You can tell if they are a Strider bike grad or other just by the way they start off. The Strider kids will start the bike rolling just like they did on a Strider bike and then just step up to the pedals after they gain momentum. I also watched a few of them use the same foot technique to slow down. Its gets kinda crazy on the sidewalks in the park with all these super little kids zooming around on their bikes.

Big day!!! Congratulations...... I'm eagerly awaiting my 3.5 year old to make that step. We ride about a mile every night and I've had him on a trail already on his Strider......making my own lil ridding buddy. :D

Reading this this thread brings me goose bumps. I remember the day last summer when my 5 year old son removed the training wheels like it was yesterday. Now he has been getting really adventurous, which is resulting in some really hairy crashes.

I just picked up a strider bike and I can't wait to give it to my almost 1 year old. She has to wait until her birthday though...which is going to be a lot harder on me then her! Can't wait for April 18th!
