I've read this several times and am quite puzzled by your lack of willingness to share your opinion. ;-)

Ended up making a inpulse by on lunch break today. Went with the specialized cage. Also made a last min trip to yankee even though the forcast wasn't looking good. Bottle stayed in place in the cage put fell out of my hand while making attempt to drink downhill .

Taped 2 gels to my handle bars and lost one during a drop off. Broke the tab right off. Any trick for keeping those darn things in place

That's what jersey pockets are for.

Also, tucking them up the side of the leg of your shorts (if you are wearing spandex) works surprisingly well.

Or just get a flask and skip the disposable packets.

sounds like you have a problem losing everything.....

I just wear a hydraton pack. Problem solved....but maybe it's not hardcore enough to ride with a camelbak on?

not a matter of looking hardcore or not. Just want to carry a lower amount of Heed in a bottle and not fill a large camelbak full of Heed and not drink 3/4 of it. Never had luck mixing drinks in a camelbak even if I clean it good with bleach right after riding, I've also freeze my bladder after everyride to keep it from molding. Always get a funny after tast when I fill it up with water the next ride or something dif.

That's basically what I do. Bottle of something sweet, bag on my back of plain water.

Personally, I just can't stand wearing a hydration pack most of the time. I have a wingnut lumbar pack I do wear during longer rides/races, but most of the time, I survive off water bottles (which I don't have a problem keeping in my cage, but I don't ride the thousands of miles it takes to make my opinion valid. )

I take two bottles if I have the bike w/ two cages. Otherwise, I'll keep the 2nd bottle in my jersey pocket, and swap out when the first is full. I don't try to use the pocket bottle while riding.
