GoPro footage from my Downhill race this weekend

Postby iamkickstand » April 30th, 2012, 4:12 pm

road tripped down to Massanutten Resort in Virginia for a DH race this weekend. 5 of us went down, was a really good time and a super fun trail.

Very rocky, I clipped more pedals Saturday then I think i did all season last year, I thought Snowshoe's DH Race was rocky, not sure why but the rocks here (same region) had a hunger for pedals. Also saw lots of flats and ruined rims.

Anyway enjoy, my race run sucked, I lost my chain and went off course, but I had a good time. I think I like the perspective of the camera better on the seat post (practice run) then on my head (race run)

Looks fun. Second vid, coolest part when you came off the road back into the woods.... looked like good air potential. Tough to tell from the vid.

if you are talking about the second fire road towards the end of the course you are correct, tough to tell in the video but decent air over all of those rollers.

Was kinda tough to come off the fire road and make the corner, the gravel was pretty loose and you were movin'

WOW!! That looks like fun. I do have one question why in the first video do you have
a Geiger counter mounted to your bike? Thanks for sharing.

A Geiger what?

Are you referring to the clicking? Its much worse mounted on the seatpost, I dunno if it was hitting the post or what

Yes the clicking sounds like a Geiger counter.

No, I believe the clicks come from the front of the camera hitting the polycarb housing. There's foam in the rear door, but nothing up front. The more rigid the item is you mount it to the louder the clicking. I don't get much from the chest harness, but any where on the bike it clicks away. On a DH rig I'm not surprised you got that much noise. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm wondering if a small piece of tape up front might help.

Or record the noise it makes and phase invert it in post production.
Might even just find a shelf EQ that will eliminate most of it.

Nope.

If you've never seen Chad's rig - he actually has a campstove of the back of his seat. I think in the first video he was cooking breakfast on his practice run. Or maybe I just wanted to hear frying bacon...?

We need to figure this *beep* out. This is too frequent.

scot, I bought a new chainguide, the "stock" chain guide specialized puts on there is "*beep*". It was also all warn out on some spots on the guides. I grabbed an E13 Lg1. Should do the trick.

I use windows live movie maker for all of my gopro stuff, super easy to edit, and add music too. A couple examples...

Will you still come over and make some bacon?
