Leaking Shimano LX Hydro Brake!!!

Postby awol12 » April 30th, 2012, 9:06 pm

Got another problem and looking or a little help before I start tearing more apart on my bike. While working on the shifting I noticed that the left hand brake on my bike is leaking brake fluid. The leak is in the handle right where the hose comes into it; right at the compression fitting. The leak is actually coming out at the end of the compression fitting where the hose goes into it. I did a little research and wonder if something is wrong with the fittings inside I can't see. Without taking anything apart I didn't notice any visible issues, I pulled back the the rubber dust cover and didn't see anything wrong there either. You can see in the photo where it is leaking. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would appreciate it, besides photos and diagrams the internet has been useless at find any information.

A unclean cut on the hose or mared and or reused fittings can cause this.

I'd replace these, shorten the hose by an inch so its fresh, and give it a bleed.

iamkickstand it's the pre-installed shimano hose. Hudnut that's what I was figuring I would have to fix. Those
e parts aren't easy to find either.

It's a pre installed hose, good to know, did you try making sure it was snug?

Yeah I tightened, or tried very carefully, but it did not budge much at all. I think I will look for those parts and then tear the handle down. I am just a little worried about cutting the cable and it not being a clean cut or being to short.

I'm sure the perfectionists will razz me about not using a hose cutting jig, but I've done plenty with a fresh razor blade and an eyeball. It's not that critical

A pair of cable-housing cutters would probably work just fine.
