Chase Bank vs. IMBA

Postby deuxdiesel » May 20th, 2012, 8:54 pm

Both are in a neck and neck race to send me junk mail, with Chase leading at four credit card/account offers over the past few weeks vs. IMBA's three in the same timeframe. Did IMBA lose big bucks recently and are trying to recover losses as well? The harder they both push, the more I will resist- what a waste of time and resources. :icon_puke_r:

If you give them $30 per year, you'll get in excess of that spent in junk mail being sent to you.

My suggestion is to give your Chapter money directly. I can't speak for all Chapters, but any money I donate to the Poto Chapter will go direct to the Poto Chapter into the Treasurer's Chapter account. I don't need my money to go to Boulder only to get half of it sent back to Michigan, plus 10 direct mail requests per month sent to me to buy socks.

I share your opinion of junk mail. However, something is working. There are significant spikes in new and renewal memberships in our chapter that I can only attribute to a mailing or membership campaign, and a pretty significant percentage of those memberships are at elevated levels. Each month, more lapsed MMBA members are becoming current MCMBA members while we focus on trail work and organizing ride events. As long as our membership is growing like this, I'm not going to criticize the process.

We've also had people and organizations contact us who wish to donate to our chapter directly in addition to their memberships and donations to IMBA, and so we've created a online page at http://mcmba.org/index.php/get-involved/donate

Can't really stop the IMBA mailers...but you can stop your mail box from filling up from credit card junk mail...

Just go to www.optoutprescreen.com

More info on how it works below:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consume ... lt063.shtm

Unsolicited Mail, Telemarketing and Email: Where to Go to “Just Say No”

Tired of having your mailbox crammed with unsolicited mail, including preapproved credit card applications? Fed up with getting telemarketing calls just as you're sitting down to dinner? Fuming that your email inbox is chock-full of unsolicited advertising? The good news is that you can cut down on the number of unsolicited mailings, calls, and emails you receive by learning where to go to "just say no."
Consumer Reporting Companies

If you decide that you don't want to receive prescreened offers of credit and insurance, you have two choices: You can opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently.

To opt out for five years: Call toll-free 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) or visit www.optoutprescreen.com. The phone number and website are operated by the major consumer reporting companies.

To opt out permanently: You may begin the permanent Opt-Out process online at www.optoutprescreen.com. To complete your request, you must return the signed Permanent Opt-Out Election form, which will be provided after you initiate your online request.

When you call or visit the website, you'll be asked to provide certain personal information, including your home telephone number, name, Social Security number, and date of birth. The information you provide is confidential and will be used only to process your request to opt out.

You can definitely opt out of IMBA communications.

Log into your IMBA account (or create one for your email if you don't have one. You don't need a membership to do that.)

Click on "Edit Account".
Click on "Edit Communication Preferences".

There are checkboxes and radio buttons for email, snail mail, renewals, membership.

(These also control any emails originated by the chapter as well as IMBA, so please only check "Do not email" if you mean it.)

Yup. The only mailings I'm getting from IMBA are membership renewal requests, and their persistence in this area is precisely why they were the better option for the MMBA in regards to building membership.
