....definitely was not good to go this afternoon/evenings. I rode maybe 5 minutes in and turned around because it was just too wet and had too many puddles. I should've figured but thought it mightve been ok based on a few recent comments.

The trail could probably use a solid 24-36 hours rain free. (IMO)

I had a incident on Tuesday evening (May 15) with a kid on a motorized minibike riding on the blue trail the wrong way. It occurred somewhere after mile marker 6 but before the road crossing. He/She came around a blind corner and we collided sending me flying. I had a pretty bad fall landing on my helmet ... I am pretty sore but I am OK. The kid rode off while i was laying on the ground. One of the mountain bikers that stopped to help me said that he has seen this kid before and he thinks he lives around the park. I will be getting with the park officials to generate an incident report.

I just wanted to make those who ride Island Lake aware so that we can all be on the lookout for this activity. Mountain bikers of all skill levels ride this trail and I know this could have been much more serious than it was. I don't want to see anyone else get hurt.

Reading this just chaps me, especially the part where he/she rides off - whiskey tango foxtrot.

Island Lake has been in decent shape as of Tuesday and Wednesday. There are a few muddy spots, but the trail is mostly try and fast. Oh man, if I see that mini bike . . .

Clever . . . but no, that would be impossible. I don't own a hash driveway or any silk shirts/track pants. I am always prepared to ensure that I make it home in one piece.

What did DNR say when you reported the crash?
Did they take interest or just blame you, the victim?
I have long suspected that DNR tolerates the locals. The lawn mower cuts from back yards to the trail indicates this tolerance.

Roy,
If you have any issue with DNR or issues within the park, stop by the office. You'll find them to be very interested in your feedback.

A shout out to the guys that I rode with yesterday, the one on the GF Super Caliber and the one on the Salsa Singlespeed. PM me if you want ride together again. I was in a hurry and didn't think to get your names. It was a good, fast ride with a couple of dudes my age - kinda rare to find people like that!

Dry,Dry,Dry and Fast,Fast,Fast. Just be cautious with the normal sandy spots. Other than that perfect... :D

There are a lot of face slapers, so when Im out there today I will cut some back. Plus I have seen Poison Ivy on the trail. In many places, it will be easy to stumble into so just keep your eyes open.

Doing a family day this weekend at Island Lake with 4 MTB's wife, kids and dog. Are dogs allowed to swim in any of the water areas?? I have heard there are a couple very nice swimming spots but don't know exactly where they are at. Feel free to PM me if you can help a brother out with GPS coordinates or advice or directions via map link etc.. I know the main swimming spot (Spring Hill Pond) is pets prohibited. Are there others that anyone can recommend that aren't so easily accesible by car and the dog could slip in for a cool dip? Dog loves water and swims like a fish.

green arrow is a good k9 swimming spot. there is a trail that leads to the lake from the big parking lot.

Don't worry. It's all downhill from here.
