The holidays are upon us, and while 2020 has been a tumultuous year for so many, the next few weeks are a great time to slow down, look back, and look ahead. As challenging as things have been, many of us are incredibly lucky to be in a position to ride and to give. By supporting your local trail association, you’re ensuring that the trails are a part of whatever the future looks like. We hope that that future looks something like this.
More Inclusive. The trails are for everyone. MMBA and many cycling organizations, including the League of American Bicyclists and Black Girls Do Bike are dedicated to offering programs that make this sport more accessible and more inviting for more communities. In the years ahead, we are working to do more to encourage a more diverse representation of our friends and neighbors on this board, in our memberships, and in our sport.
More Access. At the state level, funding has been pushed toward paved trail systems instead of natural surfaces like those we all enjoy riding. As much as we love any kind of riding, we believe mountain biking and the intimate connection with nature it provides should be a priority, and we’ll continue to represent our chapters and our riders in Lansing to make sure we have more funds to create more trails to encourage more riders.
More Community. You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone, and this year has put just how important our events and races are in building community and staying connected. In 2021, we hope to help bring the MMBA Championship Points Series back with a vengeance and to encourage riders to experience new trails and new communities across the state safely in a post-pandemic world.
More Stories. We’re making a commitment to help more Michigan mountain bikers and trail associations tell their stories. Next year, we’ll be inviting more of YOU to share your love of the bike, singletrack, and what this sport means to you and your family. If you’d like to share, email us here.
What are your 2021 goals? Let us know, and together, let’s enjoy what’s around the next corner!
